StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults!— to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along The Beat. StoryWalk® promotes literacy, physical activity, and time together in nature.
StoryWalk® at Oak Grove began during the pandemic as a way to reconnect students and their families to campus. It continued once students returned to school as a way to promote literacy and outdoor learning during the school day, but is also enjoyed after hours by community members. StoryWalk® is funded by The Oak Grove Foundation.
Thank you to the Atlanta Woman's Club for donating a collection of "The Nature Generation" books as well as our latest StoryWalk® To Change a Planet. Volunteers from the Atlanta Woman's Club also helped install the StoryWalk®.
In a culture that prizes achievement, kids are often afraid to fail--failing to realize that some of the very ideas that don't work are steps along the path to ones that will. Aside from illustrating aleaf using the EDP and/or 4Cs, this bookprovides a social emotional story surrounding worry, anxiety, bravery, and friendship. Leif's thoughts of worry and stress surrounding the big event that happens every autumn- the falling leaves- is overcome with the help of a friend.
