RESERVATIONS FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR WILL OPEN JULY 15 - Scroll to the bottom of the page to sign-up and don't forget to pay! The Oak Grove Elementary spirit rock is brought to you by The Beat Board and The Oak Grove Foundation. It is a great way to share positivity and excitement in our community. This is a reservation only program, at $25/day, where you can send well wishes, birthday wishes, congratulations, holiday cheer or to show appreciation for your favorite teacher or staff member! Simply read ALL the guidelines, sign up for any available day, and submit payment to the Oak Grove Foundation. Then have fun painting the rock, located in front of our school.
••Please read all of the details below before reserving your date••
Reservations: You must be an OGE family member or staff member to reserve the rock. To make a reservation please choose from one of the available dates listed on the sign-up button below. This is a first-come, first-served basis for available reservation dates. You may not rent the rock for more than three consecutive davs in a row to allow for all families to have a chance for rental. You also may not rent it for three additional days within the same 10 day period unless you are renting for two different designs.
Painting: Painting of the rock will occur after 3:30pm on your reserved day. If you have reserved the rock for a Monday, you may paint the rock that Monday after 3:30pm. For example: If you would like your message to be seen the morning of February 26, then you need to reserve February 25. You may begin painting at 3:30pm on February 25 and cannot be painted over until the next day at 3:30pm. (unless you've rented for more than one day at $25 per day). If you rented for 2 days, then it can't be painted over until 3:30pm on February 27. It is recommended to rent for 2 days so you have adequate time for your base coat to dry or for weather challenges. IF YOU ARE PAINTING DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, PLEASE SIGN IN AT THE FRONT OFFICE
All painting supplies are the renter's responsibility. You will be responsible for painting over any previous message with a base coat prior to painting your message. For messages and design we recommend "outdoor" water-based/acrylic craft paint. No OIL BASED PAINT or spray paint or sprayers of any kind is allowed. Painting on school property, besides the rock, is prohibited. There are no trash cans. Water is available by the front office but should not dumped on school property. Please bring appropriate tools for painting and clean-up of the area around the rock. Please put down a drop cloth, cardboard box, or newspaper around the rock when painting. Please be mindful of the landscaping, sidewalk and border around the rock. ALLOW TIME FOR YOUR COVER COAT (covering the previous design) TO DRY BEFORE PAINTING ON YOUR DESIGN.
All artwork painted on the rock must be in good taste and may not contain any foul or derogatory language, religious, political or offensive statements/symbols. The messages and designs must be positive in nature! The PTA and school admin have the right to paint over and revoke future painting privileges for individuals who do not abide by these rules.
In the event of inclement weather, you may towel dry and brave the elements, put up a pop-up tent to paint underneath or reach out to Kendall Xides ([email protected]) to reschedule for the next available day. Remember rock reservations are first-come, first-serve. We recommend you look for additional availability prior to requesting a weather reschedule.

Tips: -Google and Pinterest are great resources for design ideas. It is always a good idea to print out your inspiration picture and bring it with you. -Start with a base coat. It may be easiest to use a small roller and paint tray. Depending on the current rock color, you may need two coats. Outdoor/weather proof acrylic paint works best and dries pretty quickly. - Pencil out your design idea and start painting. -Remember it's more challenging to paint details near the bottom of the rock - Adding a tiny bit of water to your paint can help the paint go on smoothly and keep your design crisp. -Bring water and a cup or bowl to rinse out your brushes. -Paper plates are handy for holding paint and mixing colors. -Please take all of your supplies and trash with you! -It is okay to remove the fence while painting as long as you put it back when finished
Suggested Supply List: -Inspiration pictures -Pencil and eraser -Acrylic paint for base 2oz bottle (2-4) -Acrylic paint for design - 2oz bottles in a variety of colors -Small roller and paint tray/paper plates -Starter pack of acrylic brushes to paint on your design -Bottled water, brush rinsing cup -Bags for trash and taking home brushes to wash -knee pad for kneeling while painting
