What a great way to celebrate #georgiastemday!
Our school is so fortunate to have Mrs. Deery as our art/STEM teacher.
It was her vision to bring a version of the Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade to our school.
3rd Annual Lantern Parade will be
March 1, 2024
Students will have their parade during school on Friday and we will host a night time parade that evening from 5-7pm.
**WE WILL BE HAVING OUR NIGHT TIME LANTERN PARADE INSIDE**
DUE TO THE WEATHER FORECAST -
EVEN IF NO RAIN AT 6PM,
THE BEAT WILL BE WET AND THERE WILL BE NO TIME FOR OUTSIDE SET UP.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PRE-ORDERED FOOD, NO NEED TO ARRIVE UNTIL 5:30-5:45PM.

Rain plan:
5-6pm - pick up pre-ordered meals, eat, pictures with Grover, organized chaos 6pm - students go to classroom to pick up lantern and line up INSIDE the classroom. Parents will go with them and line up OUTSIDE of the classrooms. 6:15 - we will announce the start of the parade over walkies, lights will go out, and Mrs. Deery will begin the parade beginning with 1st grade going counter clockwise through the building. We will do two loops. END OF PARADE: lights will go back on once all students are back in their classroom. Parents may pick up students and exit the building. There will be overflow seating in the hallways. Please keep food and pops inside the cafeteria. |
PARKING: There will be limited parking available at the school. Please park at Oak Grove Methodist church and be considerate of our neighbors.

Students have been working on their lanterns with Mrs. Deery during art, and will use them for the school lantern parade as well as the evening parade. Each student will receive one set of string lights for their lantern. If your child wants to add more lights to their lantern for the evening parade, Mrs. Deery suggests these:

This year,in addition to our parade during the school day, the parade will also happen at night! Families are invited to meet at the school for a family picnic and night time parade. Benefactor BBQ will be on site, but families can bring their own food. Students will line up for the parade at 6:15, and the parade will begin at 6:30 - following a route along The Beat with students carrying their marine life themed lanterns. More information coming soon, but if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stacy Cleveland.

2nd Annual OGE Lantern Parade - May 19, 2023

Students will be researched native insects of Georgia and created bug lanterns for the 2023 parade
In September 2021, Oak Grove held its first Lantern Parade, to coincide with the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade. Art teacher Beth Deery challenged students to design a functioning lantern, and they used principles of light and reflection to make their lanterns shine bright!
There was also the challenge of having a parade safely during covid, and allowing parents to view the parade via live stream. Students did not disappoint with their creative designs and the first OGE Lantern Parade was a success.
